Telework & alt schedules
Teleworking (also called telecommuting) is popular with employees and employers
The recent increase in working away from the office benefits employers and employees alike. The value of working from home is usually readily apparent to employees, while the value to employers is not always as obvious. However, benefits ranging from decreased overhead to improved performance and employee retention cause more employers every year to create or expand telework programs. Locally, Medford's Regence BlueCross BlueShield center noted a threefold increase in one department's productivity after letting employees work from home.
The State of Oregon provides information about telework and a substantial tax credit for business that invest in telework.

Alternative Work Schedules
Another employer tool for decreasing commute trips is the implementation of alternative work schedules. Common examples include replacing five 8-hour workdays with four 10-hour workdays, or working 80 hours in nine workdays instead of ten. These examples can cut commute trips by 20% and 10% respectively, and tend to be well received by employees when offered. The Victoria Transport Policy Institute has more benefit and implementation information about alternative work schedules.
