Pedestrian Safety
Pedestrian Safety: Rules and Tips
1. Cross the street at the corner or at a crosswalk if there is one, and obey all traffic signals.
2. Walk on a sidewalk. If there is no sidewalk, walk on the left side of the street facing oncoming traffic.
3. Look left, right and left again before you cross the street.
4. Pedestrians are not encouraged to walk in front of city buses unless they're at a crosswalk or corner and then the driver would yield to them. Never cross behind the bus or where the driver can't see you.
5. If there is traffic, make eye contact or hold up your hand to indicate your action so that the motor vehicle operator sees you and understands your intention to cross the street. Wait until the motor vehicle has come to a full stop.

Walking School Bus
A Walking School Bus usually consists of parent volunteers walking a
group of students to school along a designated route, with set times
and places to pick up the students along the way. It's a way of
reducing car congestion around schools while increasing students'
physical exercise.
To design the Walking School Bus route, post a large map of your
community in school and have students post a sticker where they live.
Plot possible routes and hold meetings to promote the routes and
recruit parent volunteers. Draw the routes on the map in your school
or on its website, and send maps and information home with each
student. Start with one day a week - then add more.
